Countless are the famous people who visited Atrani ".... The lost paradise for a long time." Among them we love to remember:
St. Francis of Assisi in 1222, during a trip to Amalfi, where he founded a monastery on the rock of Santa Croce and Santa Sofia, stopped Atrani gathering of disciples among whom he distinguished between Francesco of Atrani; Erik Ibsen who lived three months in Amalfi in 1879. Here he created his masterpiece: "A Doll's House". He wrote all day in his room and the only relaxation he allowed were the descents of the cliffs and long walks Atrani;
Richard Wagner arrived in Amalfi in 1880 and, after a short stay, left for a donkey at a time of Ravello. Along the way he stopped at Atrani where "... the waves On the other side of the shore in an alternating cullatisi softly whisper a sweet story and mysterious song ..."
MCEscher, which deserves a special memory, landed on the Amalfi Coast March 14, 1923. In the 'Italian time, a time span ranging from 1922 to 1935, alternating between trips and stays, the artist created 110 works (including lithographs and woodcuts) which he defined as: "... more like exercises ..." but that is the basis for large-scale production of the years 30 and 40. "Over there, I have had those bizarre ideas of birds, fish, skies, waters.", "Down there" came into the magical world of Escher. His works depict the Amalfi, but was Atrani to exert a particular fascination about the artist: "the village" as he called it, was the dominant player of his production. Special attention was paid to the play of light, "... magical atmosphere, the tunnels and alleys-architectures are designed as" ... forms in space ", which led to the fulfillment of Atrani. Amalfi Coast (1931) and Metamorphosis 2 (1939-40) which was taken by the artist in the panel mural for the post office in The Hague (1968);
